MARC PARÉ: IT’S BEEN A LONG TIME COMING!

Marc Paré has been on fire in 2025, making every final but just missing that elusive top step of the podium…until now! In a tense single-elimination showdown at the PWA World Cup in Tenerife, Paré went head-to-head with Victor Fernandez, Marino Gil, and Marcilio Browne in tricky conditions at Cabezo. Combining powerful flowing wave riding with a perfectly executed double forward, he claimed a well-deserved victory.

This win was the culmination of relentless work…dialling in his Simmer setup, pushing his skills in challenging conditions and maintaining the mental composure to deliver when it counted. Here, Paré talks about his gear, the conditions, his mindset behind the victory and the retro flair Simmer and O’Shea are bringing back to the sport.

GEAR:

MP: I’ve been messing around a lot with the gear for the past year and a half with Simmer to get everything sorted. There’s a lot of background work and R&D behind what I was riding, so it’s pretty exciting to finally compete with it and feel like it’s performing exactly how I wanted.

I was riding the new Team Carbon sail from Simmer, which we’re about to release. In the final I was on the 5.3m and before that I was on the 5.6m. My board was a 98L prototype that combines elements of our Freewave board with some features from the Flywave…it’s a bit of a mix. It’s essentially an earlier-planing version of the Flywave but more radical than the Freewave, when you turn it on rail. I was running an 11 and 18 thruster fin setup! I used 34-inch harness lines. I used to ride 36-inch lines, but after some sail testing with Moritz on these Team Carbons, I switched to 34s and found them more comfortable.

THE CONDITIONS:

MP: “The conditions were tricky. In my first heat, it was really on edge, even though I love it when things are challenging, that was almost too much. I still won, but I didn’t feel like I sailed my best. I was a bit nervous. Things improved for the final, though and even though it stayed tricky, I felt a nice connection with Cabezo.

I managed to put together some solid wave rides and finally landed a good double. In earlier heats, I’d been making doubles off chops, which was cool but not scoring high. In the final, I really wanted to nail a perfect one. After a rough start, I found the right section, went for it and landed it perfectly. That felt amazing! I was happy overall with my sailing.”

MINDSET:

MP: “We also had a few good decent size waves. Mentally, I was a bit nervous, but mostly just excited to sail and I was really enjoying it. That probably helped me stay in the right mindset, similar to last year. I might not have been quite as sharp as then, but I still had a solid final and was honestly happy. Winning again felt great…It was a big “yes!” moment, validating last year’s result. Of course, it’s just the single elimination and tomorrow we might finish the double, so anything can still happen.”

RETRO:

MP: “We’ve also been throwing it back a bit with the gear colours… flashier, retro-inspired tones. We kept Simmer’s signature yellow but added a pink sail, which is a first for the brand. It is cool that we are doing a lot of new things with Simmer now and we have gone out of the way a bit with these fresh-looking colours.

With the wetsuits, it’s been cool working with O’Shea and paying tribute to Farrell by doing an ‘80s-style, multicolour design. It’s fun but also meaningful.”
