SYLT FINALS: STORM SURGE!

In true Sylt fashion, the wave drama went down to the wire on the final weekend of the Citroën Windsurf World Cup….The much-anticipated storm finally arrived on Saturday, unleashing incredible conditions for the wave fleet. One moment it was howling winds under bright sunshine; the next, dark clouds rolled in with driving of rain. The wind was up and down, the wipe outs were huge and the action was off the scale!

By the end of Saturday, the women’s contest was complete, but the men’s fleet had only been narrowed down to the top eight. After a huge effort behind the scenes, the call was made to extend the event and run the finals on Sunday morning.

Come Sunday it was chaotic….powerful onshore winds and massive waves surged right up the shoreline. Should we even compete? The answer came quickly: Let’s go for it!
