TRANSFER WINDOW
Well, in this tough economic climate we have seen quite a few major players switch brands as their contracts expired at the end of 2024. The big ones so far are:
Johan Søe AKA ‘The Beast’, has switched from Point 7 and FMX over to Patrik. He will now been using the complete array of Patrik equipment in the upcoming season. Rumour has it he will be doing a lot of iQFOiL racing this season with a focus on the World Championships at his home town of Aarhus in Denmark!
With the departure of Søe Point 7 made a shrewd move and were quick to find a worthy replacement in the name of Amado Vrieswijk who was previously with Severne for thirteen years.

Duotone have signed two major recruits one racer and one wave sailor to add to their team.
Foil slalom specialist Daniele Benedetti will join Jordy Vonk on the racing team for the upcoming season. After finishing 2nd on the PWA tour last year it will be interesting to see how he does riding for Duotone!
Over to waves and Liam Dunkerbeck has also signed for Duotone after he finished last season on a hot streak and made the finals of the PWA / IWT Aloha Classic. Liam has already been out to Cape Verde to put the new gear through its paces!
Marc Paré left ION at the end of 2024 and for the upcoming seasons will be wearing O’Shea wetsuits to keep warm and to carry on Farrel’s legacy!
- Marc Pare
Over to Goya and they have signed Japanese ripper Takara Ishii who was previously riding for RRD. With his die hard sailing style and big wave missions to Jaws this seemed like a natural move in his progression as a wave sailor.
Also on the race scene William Huppert to Patrik, while Hugo Sjöberg switches from Duotone to Tabou/GA!
WHO ELSE HAVE MOVED?
In waves, Justyna Sniady has signed up with Flikka Boards while on the race scene Lina Erzen has moved to S2 Maui Sails.
On the subject of S2 Maui, young Brendan Lohro has also joined the brand after breaking 50 knots at Lüderitz on Point 7 at the end of last season!
AWAITING NEWS
Plenty of sailors have left brands but we are yet to hear if and when they have found new sponsors:
Julian Salmonn left GUNSAILS and is out in Western Australia currently shooting for a new brand. Could he have gone all Bruch as they are now making sails or would he switch to an Aussie based brand like Severne?
Foil world champion Justine Lemeteyer says goodbye to S2Maui and FMX Racing, we are still awaiting news on which direction she is taking for 2025.
Gran Canaria high flyer Alessio Stillrich is no longer with Simmer.
Youp Schmit left Gaastra Tabou.
Antoine Martin parted ways with North Windsurfing and Starboard.
Blanca Alabau has left Starboard, we heard she is currently shooting for a new brand in Tenerife so expect news shortly! Could it be We One potentially??
TRAVEL NEWS
CAPE VERDE
Well, it has been a busy start to the new year with the likes of Victor Fernandez, Marc Paré, Kai Katchadourian, Liam Dunkerbeck, Mauritz Mauch, Fin Mellon and Marino Gil all heading out to Cape Verde to charge epic waves.

Jules Denel has just arrived also in South Africa as well as the likes of Florian Jung and Jamie Howard!
DISASTER MISSION
We heard about two Brits who we wont mention names who both headed out to Australia with one way tickets ready for a trip of a lifetime! The Aussie authorities did not take too kindly to them at immigration and sent both sailors packing on the next flights home. To add salt to the wounds, one of the sailors was charged €3000 euro for excess baggage on the way back!
HAWAII
Over in Hawaii the likes of Robby Swift, Marcilio Browne, Robby Naish and Levi Siver have been scoring massive waves at Jaws and Lanes as the big swell pound the north shore in the winter season.
CARIBBEAN
We heard Sarah Quita Offringa has been exploring Guadeloupe along with Antoine Martin, Morgan Noireaux, Coco Foveau, Camile Juban and Lisa Wermeister.
CANARY ISLANDS
PWA racer Matteo Iachino scored some incredible huge wave in Tenerife last week along with a hardy crew of local wave sailors. He is currently writing us a report about this mission so stay tuned for updates! Iballa Moreno also scored the same swell in Fuerteventura and we saw some pics of her riding some massive bombs on the north shore!
UK STORMS
Well the wind has been blowing here in the UK after the new year kicked in and the named storms continue to pepper the headlines! Watch out for next week when this insane weather bomb hits…apparently the Motley Crew Red Phone has been set at high alert! Will it be too big? who knows but you have to be in it to win it so they say! At the same time we just saw Thomas Traversa is heading to the north of France to ride the same swell…now that could be epic!
