With only 1 hour sailing possible either side of high tide Cartmel Sands is not the best location if you want to sail all day. The water is only waist deep so this is the perfect place to learn water starts without the worry of drifting out to sea. However, the outgoing tide is incredibly fast so be careful, or you may be dragged into Morecambe Bay!
