FALMOUTH GYLLYNGVASE
On the sea front of the famous Harbour Town of Falmouth lies the south easterly facing beach of Gyllyngvase, where Basking sharks are regular visitors. Parking is plentiful and fairly close to the beach, there’s even a small grassy area for rigging up in directly behind it. Another great introductory south coast spot wave spot, it’s ideal for intermediate short boarders looking to hone their skills in bumpier conditions. Gyllyngvase is best in a big southerly swell. Much of the force will be taken out of it by the Lizard peninsula and, by the time it reaches this beach, coupled with a SW wind can lay on good cross shore starboard jumping conditions. The beach can also work well in SE and possibly E winds and gives plenty of scope for intermediates looking for bump and jump and slalom blasting conditions. The winds on the inside can sometimes be a little gusty and, at high tide the shore break is best avoided if there is much of a swell running.
