The Farne Islands just two miles to the ENE of Bamburgh flatten off some of the biggest waves but the area is affected by some very strong rips which can drag inexperienced sailors onto the rocks SE of the town. Inner Sound therefore not suited to entry level sailors though for intermediate’s it’s fine. Ideal winds are NW and SE, which are cross shore.
