LARGS
Due to a ‘venturi effect’ this small stretch of the Clyde has wind when the other beaches are relatively calm. The sailing is across from Cumbrae Island to Largs, suited best to slalom and long board sailing, with little or no wave action. You must remember that this is a shipping channel with some fairly strong currents, so check with the Coast Guards before you go out sailing. The best option is to take the ferry to Cumbrae Island, which sails at regular intervals from the harbour in the centre of town.
