NEWQUAY (Fistral)
This is surfing territory and we wouldn’t recommend it unless there are no surfers around as they can get pretty nasty over what they see as a violation of ‘their’ territory. The best (and most dangerous conditions) are in SW winds with a good swell. Waves over mast high have been sailed here by very few people and they were experts. A severe rip in a flowing tide (incoming) takes you from left to right onto the rocks under the Headland Hotel, great fun for the guests but not for the sailor. We’d say that for the hassle of a slashed tyre or so there really are better places.
