AVAILABLE ON

SEAFORD BAY, NEWHAVEN

A steeply shelving shingle beach that tends to close out and dump at high tide in strong winds. Local sailors parks up on the sea front and sail up to Tide Mills and play in the sand bars there. Best from low tide to two hours before high tide, the ideal wind direction is SW. If you’re looking for wave sailing in strong SW winds, this is one of the better spots on the south coast. The only problem is that it’s difficult to access the sand bars, as there’s a lot of upwind sailing involved. There is a yacht club with parking but with a very small windsurfing membership. The alternative is to drive along the Seaford to Newhaven Road (A259), there’s a small track to the right that takes you the back of the beach. A five minute walk brings you to the water’s edge.
