ST. MARGARET’S BAY
A beach only really suitable for experts. The wind is sheltered in the bay so launching is not easy, the waves are big and if you make a mess of it you’ll get washed up on the rocks at the base of the cliffs with no wind. This is England’s closest point to France and where most cross channel swimmers leap in. You can drive down to the bay by a narrow road, which winds down from St. Margaret’s-at-Cliffe and the road gets busy in summer. The climate is so mild that sub tropical plants flourish.
