The beach at Tynemouth-Long Sands is within the harbour walls and so offers a protected sailing area for more intermediate sailors. There is usually a large amount of traffic moving around in the harbour so this location is not really suited to beginners, which is just as well as the winds can often be gusty. The harbour walls tend to stop any waves entering the harbour so it is only possible to go slalom sailing in this location.
