From his early days and an extraordinary period of domination throughout the 1990s, to his relentless pursuit of speed and battles with injury, the film follows Björn’s journey through the highs, lows and everything in between. There’s also a more personal insight into the man behind the records, exploring his family values and his passion for inspiring the next generation to get involved in windsurfing. Born to Windsurf | Red Bull TV

“Born to Windsurf” is far more than just a chronicle of a record attempt. The film looks back on Dunkerbeck’s unique career, including numerous clips from the 1980s and 1990s. A number of his fellow windsurfers also have their say. The Lüderitz Speed Challenge forms the central focus of the film: here, Dunkerbeck aims to break the 100 km/h barrier and set yet another milestone.

Director Gerald Salmina and his team followed the project over several years. Filming began in Namibia in 2019 and continued – partly due to the pandemic and difficult conditions on location – until 2023. “Born to Windsurf” then premiered in autumn 2023 at the World Cup on Sylt.
