FORMULA FOIL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP: LAKE GARDA

Check out the official press release from the Formula Foil World Championship in Lake Garda, as it stands,  Swiss sailor, Elia Colombo leads with Jacopo Renna in second position.

Torbole, Lake Garda (Italy)

“With one day to go until the conclusion of the Formula Foil World Championship, back after last year’s positive experience on Garda Trentino and organised again by Circolo Surf Torbole on behalf of the Italian Sailing Federation, there have been 23 races so far out of the 25 scheduled.

The event, which began on Saturday, was characterised by a generous week of wind, which kept the athletes from Switzerland, Poland, Czech Republic, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Norway, Argentina, Lithuania, Sweden, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, as well as Italy, very busy. So many trials, three discards applied, but the ranking hardly changed in the top positions with the Swiss Elia Colombo always in the lead, with a certain margin over the Italian and Circolo Surf Torbole holder Jacopo Renna, first in the special and brand new FoilRace1 category, i.e. one board, one sail and one foil mast. A new rule, which allowed many iQFoil athletes, but not only them, to be competitive with the equipment they already owned. Renna beat Poland’s Romanoswki by 9 points. First Youth the home athlete Jacopo Gavioli, seventh overall, while the Norwegian Tura Oppedal (Youth) leads the women’s ranking. Still Circolo Surf Torbole leader in the Junior category with Valentino Blewett, a good fifteenth overall, while the first female junior is Medea Falcioni from Ancona. First master the Spaniard Martinez Del Cerro (excellent sixth overall) and first grand master, ninth overall, the Pole Pawel Dittrich.”
