Hove Lagoon (Lagoon Watersports Centre Tel: 01273 424842) is right on the beach but protected from the sea as it is totally enclosed. The Lagoon Watersports run lessons for beginners, intermediates and experts. Children”s lessons and clubs run through out the summer. There are changing rooms, hot food and showers. Membership allows free hire of all the centres windsurf kit including beginners and experts boards and rigs. It’s an excellent place to learn to windsurf as it’s totally safe, and once proficient, you can sail on the sea on the other side of the promenade. The beach is S facing and is good for bump and jump in 15 knots and more. In stronger winds it’s a good jumping and backside riding area. Best at low to mid tide, the shore break can get fierce at high tide but not as bad as Brighton. Weather conditions can be found at www.lagoon.co.uk. Next door is Ocean Sports (Tel: 01273 412241), one of the largest windsurfing retailers on the south coast, has a vast selection of windsurfing equipment, wetsuits, bodyboards etc and members of Hove Lagoon get a discount.
