QUATRO CUBE PRO 93L TEST REVIEW 2024

The Verdict

Ultimate control that will deliver for any coastal windsurfer who often finds themselves hunting for waves. Smooth and controllable planing paired with astute turning ability for when less than ideal conditions turn up. The Cube Pro makes the most of conditions, but always keeps you in control and shredding the way you want.

The Lowdown

Branded as their control quad. Consequently, it boasts numerous design features to align with its control-focused branding. Upon initial inspection, the board appears to be user-friendly, with a touch of Quatro’s wave performance and thought incorporated into its design. Not your classic Freestyle Wave outline, visually, you’ll notice more parallel rails, which provide a fuller outline compared to some others in this test. An evident tail extension behind the back strap and the fins offers added security and glide through the lulls, which also contributes to the user-friendly nature of this board’s characteristics. On the underside, the Cube Pro features a vee double concave to a vee in the tail, along with adequate tail and nose kick – as expected from a wave board designed for control – although still nothing overly aggressive, which results in a more efficient overall rocker line. It is set up solely as a quad and is supplied with a set of four MFC fins and it comes available in Quatro’s Pro Carbon Monocoque construction. The overall colour and smart finish might not immediately catch your eye, however, the thought and small details, which are there to provide maximum control, may just be the details we all are looking for in typical bump and jump conditions, or messy unrefined waves, which we are so frequently presented with.

Brand Claim

“More speed, more drive, more snap. The Cube Pro continues to thrive in side-onshore, onshore, and bump & jump conditions.”

Performance

The Cube Pro feels easy right from the start, with its volume distributed smartly across its fuller outline. The overall length contributes to the Cube Pro’s incredible upwind performance, both on and off the plane. This capability helps position you where you want to be, allowing adjustments to your sailing line in challenging conditions – such as lumpy bump and jump scenarios, messy onshore waves, walls of whitewater, or helping to prevent the tide from ripping you down the beach. The Cube Pro smoothly glides onto the plane, providing you with ample time and opportunity to get settled in the straps. The rider’s stance, set further forward due to the noticeable tail extension, assists in carrying you through lulls when conditions are gusty, while it maintains its pace into and out of gybes. The volume in the shoulder aids in floating through tacks and handling messy waters, as the front third of the board sits proudly on the water’s surface, effortlessly managing challenging conditions. If, on the off-chance conditions become more challenging, the Cube continues to remain calm and collected, still maintaining its controlled manner. The Cube Pro excels through turns, especially with the assistance of a wave or lump of swell. It maintains control and stays connected with steep or marginally angled walls of water. On less-than-perfect wave faces, the Cube Pro truly shines, maintaining speed and flow throughout the ride. The quad setup, paired with the thin tail profile, offers ultimate control and looseness, allowing you to drive hard into a big, fully powered bottom turn and immediately follow it up with a snappy turn, sending buckets of spray with it. In the air, the Cube Pro feels light and easy to control, which encourages you to try maneuvers, while the board catches and supports the rider in a way that is often desired from a performance wave board in sub-par conditions.
