SIMMER QUANTEX G7 85L: 2025 TEST REVIEW
SIMMER QUANTEX G7 85L: 2025 TEST REVIEW (CATCH UP TEST)
The Verdict
Efficient, exciting and fun are three words that sum up the Quantex. Innate personality traits allow you to make the most of conditions. Its speed spectrum, ease of use on and off the plane and smooth effortless turning ability all merge into an impressive wave board that will be crowd pleasing and deliver maximum fun to the masses.
The Lowdown
Branded as Simmer’s Performance All-Wave Board, the Quantex is designed to excel on any wave you encounter, whether it’s a pristine ground swell or less-than-ideal wind-blown conditions. The Quantex makes a strong first impression with its vibrant orange detailing that burst against the consistent bluey green body. Its shape is elegant, with the rail, rocker, nose, and tail design drawing attention while feeling smooth and well-balanced in hand. The tail is wider and finishes in an attractive Jet Tail—a swallowtail with chamfered corners—that provides an early planing platform and facilitates effortless speed through turns. The rocker line is relatively low in the centre of the Quantex, gradually kicking up toward the tail, creating a versatile planing spectrum. This design allows you to match the pace of the wave, giving you the control to either ease back on speed or go full throttle. Its outline is parallel, with volume evenly distributed between the nose and tail, as well as rail to rail. The rails feel fairly domed as they curve onto the deck, which peaks and flattens at the centreline, creating a balanced profile and a comfortable spot for your feet when not planing. The Dual-Density EVA foot pads and new Pro Edition foot straps, which are colour-matched are visibly comfortable, add an extra layer of comfort for when you’re riding hard or navigating choppier waters. The Quantex exudes quality, with a design that is both innovative and thoughtfully executed. For UK readers, it could easily become a favourite for local waters based on these first impressions.
Brand Claim
“As the name indicates, the Quantex genealogy includes both the Quantum – the original Simmer Style wind swell wave board, and the Cortex – the innovative short rail line Simmer wave board, specifically designed for performance riding in less-than-ideal conditions.”
Performance
The footstraps on the Quantex are easy to locate and the board is quick to plane. Its planing threshold, which Simmer has strategically woven into the design, is immediately evident. The Quantex matches the rider’s pace—whether maxed out and chasing speed or simply maintaining control, the board’s impressive performance is always within easy reach. Whether you’re charging toward a ramp or navigating out of a challenging situation, the Quantex excels. Its spectrum of speed shines when picking a path of least resistance through white water and reform, making it an invaluable asset.
The wider Jet tail of the Quantex helps carry speed through lulls, offers precision in turning radius, and supports early wave pickups. This design shines in float-and-ride sessions or when a set wave of the day is thundering towards you, and missing it isn’t an option. The tail offers the necessary support to get you onto the wave effortlessly. The Quantex has great upwind ability ensuring you’re quickly back to the prime spot in the line-up with a few tacks, ready for more action.
It handles chop remarkably well, always feeling balanced and controlled. Positioned at the crest of a wave, the Quantex reveals its true wave capability. You can pull back on the power to remain planing, waiting for the perfect moment to accelerate and slip down the face with speed. Engaging the rail during a bottom turn you immediately grip the wave face while spot ting your next section or pitching lip. The Quantex responsive design enables tight, on-the-spot turns. Add pressure through the back foot, and you’ll go more vertical with ease—it feels natural, requiring minimal effort from the rider.
Off the top and when hitting a lip, the Quantex again responds well to the power of the wave but with an element of softness. It’s not harsh; instead, it works harmoniously with the wave, riding in rhythm with both the rider and the wave. Off the top, it also delivers an accessible tail slide, letting you throw spray with confidence before pulling the board back under you and projecting back down the wave face for the next bottom turn. In messy or less-than-ideal wave conditions, the Quantex more than shines, in fact we felt it performed best here, maintaining impressive performance and ensuring maximum fun on the water. A firm favourite among the team.
