The Whitetip is an all new specialist freestyle sail from Simmer, sharing a similar four batten frame to the Blacktip, it has been designed to deliver more symmetrical handling and is also lighter.

At a glance
This four batten sail has a very clean and compact out-line shape. It is lightweight but also looks solid and built to last, with plenty of re-enforcements and X-Ply where needed. It has a large padded tack fairing, along with all of the usual Simmer features and has a stylish look that is very recognisable on the water.

It rigs on a 400 RDM and we tested the sail with a Simmer RDM10 mast. Rigging and tuning the Whitetip is easy, with pulley wheels at the foot, for the down-haul and a lightweight clew ring for the out-haul. For tuning, set the down-haul to the recommended and then tweak with the out-haul to suit the conditions.

It is very light in the hands and powers up incredibly smoothly. The pull is there when you want it and when you don’t it is very easy to switch to neutral. It is beautifully  balanced, making it easy to duck and throw around. It doesn’t matter whether you’re going backward, upside down or clew first, it remains controlled, with great handling. The natural wind range on the water is also very wide, with tons of bottom end power along with top end control, holding it’s shape even in well powered up conditions.

The verdict
The Whitetip is a very easy sail to grab and get on with. It is so well balanced and controlled, that throwing it into any move feels completely natural. The wind range is very good and for a four batten sail it has the widest wind range and doesn’t crease or get blown out of shape when the wind picks up. Highly recommended for any level of freestyler.
