Víctor Fernández PWA Youth World Cup Almerimar 2019
With more than 40 participants from seven countries – Germany, Belgium, Denmark, France, Spain, United Kingdom and Italy were attending the first tour stop of the PWA Youth World Cup of the season in Almerimar. A total of 11 races were run with east and west wind in the discipline slalom. 9 heats of slalom were completed during an intense day with east winds (Levante) on the second day of competition. On the last day another two races were completed, this time with west winds (Poniente). The conditions were not good enough during the competition period to run waves. The event marks its second successful edition, proving that the spot Almerimar is a reference for many windsurfers. The young riders have shared an incredible week windsurfing and doing other activities in the Spanish town of Almerimar.

The junior fleet has been divided into four categories.
Benoit Merceur from France (F1159) was able to take the win in the category U-20 and the Spanish champion Regina Villegas ( E111) in the women’s category. The Frenchman Armand Genevais (F159) has been unbeatable in the U-17 category, he won all eleven races. Mar De Arce took the win in the women’s division (E279). The local rider Noelia Fuentes (E409) stood out in the female U-15 category. The winner in the youngest category, U-13, was the local rider Miguel Mirón (E918).

Victor´s words: “The 2nd edition of the Víctor Fernández PWA Youth World Cup Almerimar has exceeded all my expectations. We were able to improve our organisation compared to last year. We had incredible food, fun no wind activities and a very good infrastructure in general. We have the help of lot of local volunteers and we were able to built up a good relationship with our sponsors. Thats why I am already able to announce the third edition of the Victor Fernandez Windsurf Festival, which will be held from 27 to 30 December 2019 with the Spanish Championship followed by the PWA Youth World Cup from the 2nd until the 6th of January 2020.”

The Victor Fernandez PWA Youth World Cup was the first stop of the 2019 PWA Windsurfing World Tour, which will continue in Japan, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Hawaii in the discipline wave and more slalom events have to be confirmed.
