Much of north Hayling coast is marshland, which dries (or wets) out at low tide. Northney, just by the bridge connecting the island to the mainland is the best launch point if you’re looking for sheltered windsurfing. The launch point is quite close to the local windsurfing retailer Shore Watersports (Tel: 02392 467334). The beach allows access to Chichester and Langstone Harbours although the latter requires dropping the rig to negotiate the road bridge and the remains of the old railway bridge.

Getting there: Off M27 at Havant, follow signs

Parking: Plenty of parking by the beach with a large grass rigging area

Ideal Wind: SW, W, E

Accomodation: Plenty of B&B’s, camping and caravan sites nearby

Amenities: Local shops

Suitable for: Most abilities
