RRD have just released their stunning Y27 windsurfing sails:

This year, with the addition of the 9-time world champion Gollito Estredo to our team, we have developed sails that will amaze you with their unique design and feel.

THE VOGUE

The Vogue is the sail for ripping in the waves and handling the toughest high wind conditions. Last year we worked heavily on the sail and increased the space between the bottom two battens, allowing the sail to breath and react more in the important area around the boom.

The results were a touch more power, but at the same time much better control, with the power being really focused in the front of the sail around the boom area where it is easy to control.

For Y27 we focused on trimming weight out of the sail whilst maintaining the same high levels of durability and reinforcement. Whether its jumping, riding or just blasting in highwinds, the Vogue lets you take your sailing wherever you want to go.

THE STYLE PRO

The Style Pro is our 100% freestyle sail, developed with 9 times world Champion, Gollito Estredo, and our world cup team, to continuously push the limits of freestyle. In the constantly evolving world of Freestyle our ‘non-stop research and development program’ is the key to making this sail what it is today. We constantly work on increasing the power and pop of the sail, whilst maintaining excellent ducking and control. Whether you are working on your first spock or mastering the shifty shaka, the Style Pro makes everything possible.

THE X-WING

Over 2 years in development the Y27 X-wing takes our racing program to new levels. Our team demanded more drive in the sail whilst keeping the excellent top end speed and control of the previous version. Firstly we flattened the entry into the sail and moved the draft back a fraction to help keep the fin loaded at the lower end and when sailing tight to the wind. We also modified the leech, tightening both the lower section and head, whilst opening the mid leech further.

The lower section helped to further increase the drive in the sail, whilst the tighter head helped to keep the board under control in the most extreme gusts. Opening the mid leech kept the top end control and speed that everyone loved. In addition to this in the 2 new larger sizes 8.4 and 9.0, we drastically increased the aspect ratio, shortening the boom and increasing the luff length. This change was first tested purely for foiling, but we quickly found the benefits were huge even with a fin, increasing both speed and control. Overall the Y27 X-Wing offers big advances whether it’s the larger fin and foil hybrids or the smaller slalom/speed machines. For riders that want to go fast and win races”.

THE NEW DEFENDER / WINDSEEKER SIGNED BY RRD

The Defender RRD Windseeker project is born from the desire to combine classicism and the unstoppable capabilities of a timeless icon and RRD Roberto Ricci Designs specialized in water sports and clothing. The car was designed in cooperation with the Land Rover team in Italy with the idea of creating a car full of accessories that makes it perfect for wind and ocean related sports. The New Defender model chosen is the 110 with a 3-liter diesel / soft hybrid engine: what makes the difference are the details that contribute to making it a real cult car: the roof , made in wind and water proof fabric , can be completely opened to allow passengers to get out in a lookout position in search of the right wind and waves conditions. Inside, in the rear part of the car, a portable shower has been set up to wash salt water from the body or equipment, while externally a storage box has been mounted to accommodate wet suits after a day in the water. There is also a compressor, perfect for inflating boards, kites or wings. RRD also designed the external graphics: a map of Europe is drawn showing the isobars that mark the most frequent winds on the area. On the left side of the car you find a beaufort scale which allows you to evaluate the different intensity of the winds in relation to the size of the waves that will be generated. The car, presented from 17 to 20th August 2021 at the Porto Cervo Yacht Club and at the Costa Smeralda Waterfront in Sardinia, Italy, will be a pilot experiment. The Windseeker is equipped with a package of accessories designed to enhance the versatility of Defender, ideal for windsurfing, kitesurfing and water sports in general which can be purchased from any Land Rover dealership in Italy to allow enthusiasts to capture the perfect wave.
