TAHITI FREERIDE PARADISE

Laurence Carey attended the Tahiti freeride cup, making this video and telling us “Over the past few months I have been privileged to spend time in what is my part of the world. While I am based in Europe for the PWA it was nice to get back to a more relaxed vibe where we had phenomenal windsurfing and racing. Although I never reached New Zealand it was nice to get back to my roots and get back to the southern hemisphere for a few weeks after being based in Europe for six months.
In tropical turquoise water it was something special that I will never forget! The windsurf community is unbelievable where you cant help but feel welcome where you are housed by locals and have daily functions which involve the entire community. From getting to the beach to traveling around the island it was memorable as we had a 4×4 car which was old school requiring at least four attempts to turn it on. With enough rust all over the truck it is an icon of the town where everyone recognises it and gives you a wave as they thought we were the owner and big wave surfer Beb Boosie.
The racing was unbelievable where we had a mixture of long distance and slalom racing. The courses were awesome where we would travel for over 18km in the long distance races between two outter atols. On the way you would see dolphins, manta Rays and the odd reef shark whilst also avoiding coral heads and schools of jumping fish.
Checkout my video to see how beautiful the place is and why you should put this event on your 2017 calendar.
Also want to say a huge thanks to everyone who made this event possible and for getting me to what was the most special event I have ever been apart of.
Torea – providing accommodation on Raiatea Island
Christophe – Organising the event and for getting me to the event
Beb Boosie – Providing Mad Max the 4×4
Alex Deican – Housing me in Tahiti before the event
Tahiti Windsurfing Association and Tahiti Airlines for your amazing support.

Kind Regards,
Laurence Carey (NZL252)
