The swell size reduces as you move west round the bay. Upton Towans is a good location if the wind is too onshore at Gwithian and with a smaller wave as well. The only hazards are a couple of rocks on the beach. High tide should be avoided as the shore dump gets pretty wild and, coupled with a strong rip launching is not that pleasant.
