GOYA BANZAI 11 PRO CARBON 5M: TEST REVIEW 2025

The Verdict

The Goya Banzai 11 Pro has a firm but friendly power that delivers an impressive lightness and stability throughout your riding experience. The eye catching Banzai will for sure turn heads both on and off the water. For those that get to use it, beware, you will likely never want to give it back.

The Lowdown

Don’t get overwhelmed by the impressive new line-up from Goya or the various configurations and colourways of the Banzai you may have seen. There are three distinct versions of the Banzai: Banzai 11 Pro, Banzai Surf Pro and Banzai Max Pro, each tailored to suit different riding styles, conditions, and uses. The Banzai 11 Pro Carbon, Goya’s World Cup Wave Sail, is available in four unique constructions: Pro, X Pro, Iris Carbon, and Pro Carbon, with Pro Carbon representing the premium option. We had the privilege of testing the Banzai 11 Pro Carbon, and it’s clear that Goya has spared no effort in crafting this model. The sail’s futuristic design immediately catches the eye with its fluorescent yellow and black detailing, complemented by the visible black carbon layup embedded in the sail’s skin. On the beach, it naturally draws a crowd. A closer look at the design and construction reveals thoughtful engineering and cutting-edge materials. Goya’s trademark poly clew, offering two titanium eyelets, top for power and lower for control. The main window panel is made from 6-mil Bi-Ply, offering a softer feel, improved flexibility, and reduced creasing. The upper body panels are constructed from ultra-thin, 1.5-mil, ultra-low stretch linear warp carbon fibre yarns, which are meticulously arranged to control the load lines in the sail. These are combined with ultra-strong Technora Aramid X-Ply for enhanced durability. In the foot, tack, and centre luff panels, the same high-performance material is used, though at a 2-mil thickness to boost puncture resistance and weight. This strategic combination of materials demonstrates a remarkable level of precision and craftsmanship. You can feel the attention to detail as soon as you unroll and rig the sail. And let’s not forget how incredibly light it is! Even before hitting the water, it’s evident that the Banzai 11 Pro Carbon pushes the boundaries of sail design, material innovation, and technology in the pursuit of exceptional wave-sailing performance.

Brand Claim

“A new profile combined with a more unified twist from bottom to top creates a more efficient and lighter feeling sail giving you more range and control especially in down the line conditions.”

Performance

The Banzai 11 Pro Carbon is instantly responsive without ever demanding too much from the rider. It feels light in the hands and is easy to position wherever the rider needs or wants power. As you punch through white water and reforming waves, the sail’s power remains stable, consistently supporting the rider. When it’s time to plane, the Banzai 11 Pro Carbon delivers power with a firm yet controlled pull. It never feels aggressive, maintaining a balanced, even feel in the hands. There’s a touch of extra throttle in the backhand if you need to accelerate out of trouble or charge toward a perfectly lined-up ramp.

Stability is at the heart of the Banzai 11 Pro Carbon. Its impressive material layup reinforces this characteristic, enabling it to handle gusts with smooth, composed reactions while keeping the power steady. Transitions with the Banzai are remarkably swift, especially in gybes, where the sail’s ultra-stable nature provides unparalleled control. This stability gives you the time and freedom to focus on other crucial decisions mid-transition. On a wave, the Banzai 11 Pro Carbon delivers an extraordinary experience, elevating your riding to new heights. It feels as though the sail is designed to help you ride better, thanks to its dynamic flex that comes alive when engaging with the wave. The sail works in harmony with the rider’s energy, adapting seamlessly to the opportunities it presents. Whether you prefer a smooth riding style or a slashy, aggressive approach, the Banzai 11 Pro Carbon complements and enhances your technique. Paired with the latest Goya wave board line-up, you’re equipped with a lightweight, agile combination that allows you to ride waves with exceptional finesse and precision.
