GOYA ONE CARBON 105 2023 TEST REVIEW

Verdict
Incredibly smooth to ride, the One 3 always feels in control. Capable of getting going with ease the board releases well whilst also managing harsh conditions in a dependable manner. Clearly designed for coastal venues, the board excels best when riding through messy chop or transitioning from rail to rail on messy waves.

The Lowdown
Goya summarises the One 3 Carbon in 3 key terms – wave outline, slalom rocker and freeride comfort. Looking at these three terms, we can instantly get a feel for some of the design features the board may possess and some of the feelings it may produce. This year Goya has added a 77 to the One 3 Carbon’s range, which is said to be ideal for smaller riders. The medium sizes of 85 and 95 cater to a wide spectrum of conditions and styles, whilst the large and XXL sizes of 105 and 115 are designed for lighter winds and heavier riders with sharper rockers and rails and added volume. Common on freestyle wave boards, the One 3 Pro has a domed deck under the back foot, which flattens off forwards of the mast track.

Flip the board over, and you will see a clean double concave with vee throughout and rails that taper smoothly from a full shape at the board’s shoulders to a thin profile at the tail of the board, finishing with a swallow tail. The board comes with a broad range of strap settings, the outboard strap options are there if you want to load the board with a larger single fin and bigger sail to explore its straight-line ability, and with its powerbox central box, there is plenty of scope to do this.Produced in the brand’s premium construction, the One 3 Carbon is constructed with full carbon, double sandwich and S-Glass and finished with the lightest fluro-blue paint job and sanded bottom to give it that carbon look.

Brand Claim
Wave outline, slalom rocker, freeride comfort. In the midst of all those perks, the One 3 Carbon is 100% dedicated. Zero compromise. The all-new shapes melt together explosive speeds, range and ultimate comfort.

Performance
Feeling exceptionally connected with the water, the Goya One 3 accelerates in a very controlled and progressive manner, never making the rider feel rushed. The board releases well, but never to the stage where it is out of control, allowing the rider to sail in the harshest conditions without feeling too charged. This, combined with excellent fittings, produce a real aura of control, making the hunt for longer sessions more achievable. One of the more wave-orientated boards on test, the One 3 transitions from rail to rail smoothly whilst also pivoting more sharply when the tail is engaged. In gybes, the board carves well and engaging the full rail allows the rider to get their weight forwards, helping with rig positioning and keeping the nose down in bumpy seas. In the exit, the narrow and parallel outline of the board helps the rider avoid any sticky feelings and keeps the board accelerating fast. For all-round ease, fluidity and control in challenging conditions, the One 3 is a strong prospect.
