QUATRO POWER 105 2023 TEST REVIEW

Verdict
Without a doubt one of the most wave-orientated boards on test, the Power produces an incredible connection with the water. Confident in big sea states, the Power is an excellent board for UK wave sailing, whether you are looking for bump and jump or radical turns this board is certain to turn average conditions into an exciting playground.

The Lowdown
By far the most wave inclined board in the crossover test, the Power is Quatro’s “Free Thruster”. As with all of Quatro’s boards, the Power is finished in a clean black and white carbon finish and is produced in their established Pro Carbon Monocoque construction. Available in 4 sizes from 86 to 115, the Power is supplied with MFC’s thruster set-up but can be sailed as a single fin. The board also comes with four easily adjustable MFC footstraps, which can be set in an inboard or outboard setting. The Power flaunts a very fast rocker allowing the design to produce a reasonably flat section whilst also maintaining some scoop at the nose.

This suggests the board will generate good speed whilst not reducing the Power’s wave sailing capabilities. Looking at the bottom shape, a subtle vee and double concave run throughout to keep the low end smooth and maintain its high-speed performance. The board’s outline is very curved, suggesting that the Power will possess some good turning ability. Complimenting this is the board’s tail rocker, which is fast and hints that the board will love some back-footed drive through the turns.

Brand Claim
Your all-around bump & jump, swell slashing, wave-riding, freeriding blaster, the Power remains the go-to for maximum fun in the broadest variety of conditions. Continuing to feature the fastest tail rocker in the range, the Power Pro is the quickest board to get up and go in the Quatro line up. A full vee with double concave bottom compliment speed with comfort.

Performance
The Quatro features not only surf-like design features but a surf-like style too. Capable of early planing, the Power asks to be driven onto the plane in an assertive manner as its smooth release produces a controlled feel. The rocker in the board’s tail provides a well-received connection with the water allowing the rider to ride over chop without ever receiving a hint of unwanted bounce, which assists in settling the mind in hectic conditions. Despite the board encouraging the rider into a more manoeuvre-oriented stance, the Power reaches impressive top speeds and transitions well into gusts with just the right amount of release.

Through the lulls, the Power encourages the rider to drive the board onto its flat section to maintain speed, a simple task from the upright-positioned stance. The Power would be a strong contender in the wave category, especially for UK conditions where the breeze is inconsistent and waves are often messy. Drawing out smooth and powerful turns where it maintains its speed throughout, the board transitions from rail to rail effortlessly and with impressive upwind capabilities, the Power is a real weapon for cross-onshore days.
