RRD MOVE 5.7 2023 TEST REVIEW

Verdict
Without a doubt, one of the most sleek-looking sails on test, the Move is a style icon. With its low centre of effort, the Move’s power is incredibly easy to direct, a quality maintained whether at the lower or upper end of its wind range thanks to the sail’s versatile setting options.

The Lowdown
Sleek in design with RRD’s signature black and orange colourway, the Move is a style masterpiece. The sail’s design looks incredibly clean, with strong skin tension and not a crease in sight. The Move is said to be the most versatile sail in RRD’s lineup, capable of performing at any venue in any conditions, from flat water to bump and jump and even waves. Unpack the Move, and you really get that new sail feeling. Crisp and exceptionally manufactured, the Move has outstanding build quality. The sail’s design is fairly compact, with a relatively short mast and long boom. Despite being a 5-batten sail, the Move has a fairly wide batten spacing to ensure the sail has a broad wind range. RRD have also added stretch control seams through the window, along with double seams around the window’s edge to ensure the sail’s structural integrity is not compromised. While the skin tension in the panels is strong, the Move possesses a Dacron luff panel to allow the sail to breathe and deliver smooth power at will. RRD have used 5mm X-ply in the most stressed areas of the sail whilst using 2mm scrim in the upper third to guarantee the sails are lightweight.

Brand Claim
The Move is possibly the most versatile sail in our lineup. Designed to excel in everything from flat water, to bump and jump and waves.

Performance
Rigged on the upper clew eyelet in marginal conditions, the sail provides an extremely useful amount of leverage, providing a springy feel in the leech that lets the rider work the sail with ease whilst getting onto the plane. In windier conditions, drop the boom down to the lower clew eyelet, and the leech profile falls away, increasing the sail range dramatically. The Move’s centre of effort sits low and forward in the sail, making exiting any manoeuvres second nature. Just drop your weight back from the rig, and the pull of the sail directs the board onto the plane, making even the stickiest of boards accelerate well. Whilst one of the smaller sails on test, the Move matched up impressively in many areas. Reaching impressive speeds, the power in the sail is very useable and, due to its low position, never gives the feeling of being pulled onto the toes. The Move’s key features highlight its versatility. There is no doubt this sail can hold its own in a range of categories, from freeride to wave and even freestyle.
