SEVERNE DYNO III 105 2023 TEST REVIEW

Verdict
A bump and jump specialist, Severne’s Dyno is sure to help you reach new heights in the air. Fast on the straights and direct in nature, this board is also a secret weapon in the gybe, where its parallel rails will help you maintain speed for days.

The Lowdown
Severn’s Dyno is like the sports car of the crossover market. Built for speed and finished in a racing red, the Dyno’s design has some fast characteristics. With extremely long parallel rails that push the shoulder of the board exceptionally far forward, there is no doubt that this board will get planing quickly. Another fast feature of the board is its rocker line which is fairly subtle with a long flat section on the underside of the board.

The tail of the Dyno possesses an increased tail kick to ensure the board maintains manoeuvrability. A standout feature of the Dyno is its bevelled rails running from the nose back to the mast track, a design feature that aims to keep the nose from sticking through turns. The Dyno is available in six sizes, from 75 to 125, and is produced in HD construction and regular construction. The Dyno HD, which comes in a white and black finish, is the brand’s heavy-duty value-orientated construction and is produced with HD glass and wood reinforcements on the heels, nose, and mast track surroundings, as well as added HD glass, wrapping the rails to ensure strength and long-term durability. The regular Dyno is constructed using BX carbon reinforcements on the nose, mast track and rails. This construction is lighter and stiffer due to the use of multi-axial carbon and glass layup.

Brand Claim
The Dyno is the go-to board for all-round windsurfing conditions. Multiple tuning options and innovative design solutions transform any day on the water into one to remember.

Performance
At rest, the Dyno’s stability is shockingly impressive, making it extremely accessible for heavier riders. This quality makes uphauling on this board an easy task, even with bigger sails. Once up and in the sailing position, the board begins to track well, accelerating smoothly with a crisp release as power is supplied. As the speed builds, the board’s direction is unwavering. Once steered to the desired destination, it locks in on its target and maintains course comfortably due to the rearward positioned fins providing heaps of grip.

The Dyno planes on a minimal wetted area, with the nose sitting well clear of any chop, which, with its long parallel rails, makes the board feel much longer than its quoted length. Charge the Dyno at any ramp and it confidently takes flight with its relatively wide nose providing useful lift to float through the air. For gybes this board is a top contender. The speed carried by the Dyno through the turn makes the rider feel like an idle co-pilot as the board maintains speed comfortably through a drawn-out arc, keeping almost all of its pace from entry to exit. This gives the rider plenty of time to think about the foot change and rig flip, a valuable asset in tricky conditions.
