QUATRO CUBE PRO 82 TEST REVIEW 2024

The Verdict

Great for all conditions the Cube Pro 82 offers insane turning ability and impeccable control. The most common key feedback from the test riders was that the Cube Pro 82 offers smooth carving and enjoyment keeping you on the wave at the waves pace.

The Lowdown

This isn’t Quatro’s out-and-out wave board; it’s branded as their control quad. Consequently, it boasts numerous design features to align with its control-focused branding. Upon initial inspection, the board appears to be user-friendly, with a touch of Quatro’s wave performance and thought incorporated into its design. Visually, you’ll notice more parallel rails, which provide a fuller outline compared to others in the test. An evident tail extension behind the back strap and the fins, which is unlike the majority in the test, offers added security and glide through the lulls, which also contributes to the user-friendly nature of this board’s characteristics.

On the underside, the Cube Pro features a vee double concave to a vee in the tail, along with adequate tail and nose kick – as expected from a wave board designed for control – although still nothing overly aggressive, which results in a faster overall rocker line. It is set up solely as a quad and is supplied with a set of four MFC fins, while it is available in Quatro’s Pro Carbon Monocoque construction. The overall colour and finish might not immediately catch your eye, or make your heart skip a beat, but the subtle differences compared to others in the line-up might just be what makes you fall head over heels for the Cube Pro.

Brand Claim

“More speed, more drive, more snap. The Cube continues to thrive in side-onshore, onshore, and bump & jump conditions.”

Performance

Despite being one of the smallest and narrowest on test, stepping onto the board it feels quite easy, due to its fuller outline and excellent volume distribution. Off the plane, it tracks upwind very well, in fact, it was the best in the lineup. When getting onto the plane, the board seems to load up and then releases smoothly. Once released, the footstraps are conveniently located. A nice detail is the rear deck pad extending forward of the strap, which provides you with a reference point on the board and adds comfort when sailing with your back foot out of the strap.

Boasting a low planing threshold thanks to the tail extension coming into play, it allows you to keep gliding through the lulls in gusty conditions with ease, which becomes even more apparent in turns, as it just keeps planing, whether it’s a tight top turn, a hard bottom turn, or simply traversing a wave face for a delayed hit – the Cube Pro handles it all. The Cube Pro has a super adaptable nature, with the rider’s stance and fins positioned further forward on the board than others, which makes it more pivotal. It was a favourite among our test team as it flatters the rider and wants to stay at the pace of the wave, rather than getting too carried away and running away from you, while its agility to turn will keep you where the real riding needs to be done. The Cube Pro is easy to use and about as plug-and-play as a thoroughbred wave board can be.
