QUATRO CUBE PRO 87 TEST REVIEW 2023

The Verdict

With great drive and exceptional grip, the Cube has the perks of a radical wave board with some kindly received additions that bestow the Cube with some exceptional ability in onshore conditions.

The Lowdown

After testing Quatro’s Pyramid last year, we now look to the Cube for the 2023 test, which is the brand’s ‘Control Quad’. The Cube is manufactured in six sizes ranging from 75 to 106 litres, is built on a high-density full double sandwich and finished in total carbon and S-glass and comes in a clean black and white carbon finish.

Designing the board to suit various conditions, Quatro has created a fuller outline with moderately parallel rails for the Cube and a diamond tail to provide more support and maintain its planing ability. The underside of the board is shaped with a vee bottom and double concave throughout, along with a relatively fast rocker line and modest tail kick. At 222 cm, the Cube’s length is a little shorter when compared to the other boards on the test, highlighting its compact shape. The Cube’s quad setup is reasonably forward in the board, with the rear strap positioned directly above the rear fins and is provided with MFC’s latest footstraps and QS RTM 300 black fin setup, which fit into the board’s four slot boxes.

Brand Claim

“More speed, more drive, more snap. The Cube continues to thrive in side-onshore, onshore, and bump & jump conditions.”

Performance

Smooth and comfortable, the Cube rides with a very planted nature, producing a strong connection with the water and inspiring the rider to push through turns confidently. In onshore conditions, the support provided by the soft rails and diamond tail was a blessing whilst trying to maintain speed down the line. The grip offered by the quad setup was evident in both top and bottom turns, allowing the rider to dig weight into turns, especially at the top of the wave. The combination of traction and speed down the line allowed the pilot to position at will on the wave, turning sharply and aggressively or executing a more drawn-out turn to reach a more distant section. Adding to its versatility, the new slot boxes offer the choice of riding with the fins further forward for looser riding or further back for more carving ability.

Whilst not as quick as some of the other boards on test, the Cube is agile and never feels sticky or awkward, gliding well through lulls whilst inviting the rider to drive every bit of power as the gusts hit. On the way out, the Cube tracks exceptionally well, whilst its settled nature gives the helm time to set up for the following air. As the board boosts off the lip, the broad strap setup provides plenty of control in the air, and the double inserts on the back strap deliver a strong connection with the board even when rotating.
